Peter A. Kechejian, MD, CPE (Dr. K) is a board-certified Pain Management Specialist and Certified Pain Educator, in private practice taking care of pain patients.
He is the creator of the U.S. registered and trademarked Pain is the PITS® Program for the medical treatment of chronic pain. He is President and CEO of PITS Program, LLC, a Texas-based pain management educational company. He is the author of his soon to be edited and published book: Pain is the PITS: A Pain Management Program to Answer America’s Opioid Crisis. He has been a passionate educational pain management speaker on Long Island and has previously produced video and podcast multi-media pain management program presentations for both public and healthcare professional audiences all over America under the direction of Real Content Media Group (RCMG). His great hope is that the Pain is the PITS® Program will be the first universally recognized national chronic pain management educational program for all Americans who suffer from chronic pain to understand and follow. The program will bring the patient and their pain management team together for the best assessment and management of pain; and at the same time, help answer the “Opioid Crisis” question in America by providing an integrative, more balanced approach to treatment options for chronic pain. In the end, the PITS Program care approach will maximize a patient’s comfort, function and overall quality-of-life, without the need to keep escalating opioid narcotic levels for pain therapy.
A graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., he completed his residency in Anesthesiology and a Fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center (now UMass Memorial Health Care), in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was the former Director of Pain Management for the Anesthesia Residency Teaching Program at the Nassau University Medical Center-NUMC (formerly, Nassau County Medical Center), in East Meadow, New York. While at NUMC, he was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology through SUNY at Stony Brook, University Hospital and Medical Center, in Stony Brook, New York.
After his formal academic teaching years, he spent the next ten years in the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health (NSLIJ) Health Care System (now the Northwell Health System), working with North American Partners in Pain Management (NAPPM) as an Interventional Pain Specialist and Director of Oncology Pain Services for the group practice in Syosset, New York. He was briefly involved again with the interventional pain management training for the Anesthesiology Residency Program at NUMC for Residents who rotated through the Syosset Hospital campus, in Syosset, New York. Prior to this, he was Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor-Department of Surgery, to the faculty of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology, teaching pain management for the Family Practice Residency Program, at the Plainview Hospital campus, in Plainview, New York. He was also involved with the didactic teaching of interventional pain management for the Palliative Care Fellowship Program at North Shore University Hospital, in Manhasset, New York.
He is a member of the American Pain Society, the American Academy of Pain Management (now the Academy of Integrative Pain Management), the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, among other professional organizations. He is board-certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology, and is a Certified Pain Educator through the American Society of Pain Educators.
Currently, his pain management practice is focusing on the safe, minimally invasive, outpatient medical and interventional techniques for the treatment of chronic pain conditions, utilizing the Pain is the PITS® Program as an educational patient “compliance” guide for the best multidisciplinary “opioid-sparing” integrative clinical care that America has to offer.
Dr. Kechejian’s PITS Program motto is:
“Feel better and live your life, because pain is the PITS!”
